Press Briefing of the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) for 16 April 2021
• 18 provinces have been declared red zones or “maximum controlled zones” which include Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chon Buri, Samut Prakan, Prachuap Khiri Kan, Samut Sakhon, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Phuket, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nonthaburi, Songkhla, Tak, Udon Thani, Suphanburi, Sa Kaeo, Rayong, and Khon Kaen. The remaining provinces are classified as “controlled areas” or orange zones
• CCSA decided to impose new measures to control the outbreak of COVID-19 while minimizing the impact on livelihoods as follows:
Nationwide Measures:
- Public members are urged to work from home and avoid unnecessary commute
- All educational institutions are to move classes online
- Department stores are to close at 9PM. Sales promotion events that gather large crowds are prohibited.
- Alcohol sales are not permitted
- Activities with more than 50 people must be pre-approved by state authorities
- All bars, pubs and massage parlours across the country will be closed for 14 days
- CCSA and related agencies are looking for additional quarantine and self-isolation facilities
- These measures will be implemented for a period of 14 days, starting this Sunday, 18 April 2021
-Red Provinces:
Dine-in services are allowed until 9PM and take-out services are to close at 11PM
24-hr convenience stores and supermarkets are to operate between 4AM and 11PM
Gym and fitness centers are to close at 9PM. Sporting activities can be held with a limited number of spectators
-Orange Provinces:
Both dine-in and take-out services at restaurants and coffee shops can operate till 11PM
24-hour establishments can operate normally
Gym and fitness centers can operate normally
• Public Health Ministry is making sure that there are enough beds for COVID-19 patients, as more field hospitals are being erected and more beds are being added to meet the rising case number
• As of Friday, 510,456 persons have received the first doses of COVID-19 vaccine, whereas 75,576 persons have been fully vaccinated
• The Ministry of Labor will provide free COVID-19 tests to workers insured under Sections 33, 39 and 40 of the Social Security Act
• There is an online risk assessment that people can do before considering a hospital visit. This self-assessment is available in Thai, English, and Chinese. It helps people figure out whether they need to visit a hospital. Here is the link to the assessment:
